There will be a full briefing, a run through the itinerary and a chance to ask questions before the group is whisked off on a cycle rickshaw tour of Kathmandu. The rickshaws will pass through some of the oldest parts of the city including Dubari Square and the bustling, narrow streets of Thamel before arriving at an authentic Nepalese restaurant. Here the students will be served a traditional Nepalese meal, seated on the floor and accompanied by local musicians. Overnight in Kathmandu (Hotel) Meals: lunch, dinner

Traffic is not permitted inside the city making a walking tour an absolute delight. Next you will visit the Hindu temple at Pashupatinath and learn about the cremation ceremony which is performed day and night on the ghats beside the temple. Finally the group will head back towards the capital and visit the famous Buddhist Stupa at Bodhnath, covered in colourful fluttering prayer flags. The group can have lunch overlooking the stupa before heading back to Kathmandu. The rest of the afternoon will be free to relax. Overnight in Kathmandu (Hotel) Meals: breakfast

Day 6: Rafting

The tour gets more exciting still today as you leave Pokhara and follow the Seti River to the 'put-in' point. Here our river guides will give a full safety briefing over lunch before everyone sets off downstream through the pretty limestone valleys that give the river its name (Seti = white) the warm waters are generally calm all year and ideal for beginners and bird watchers. In the late afternoon the group will paddle into camp, situated in a cool forest clearing. If there is time the guides will take the group on a walk to the nearby villages. Here our expert naturalist guides will be there to meet the group and give a quick tour of the lodge and its grounds. In the afternoon, there will be time for a guided walk through the Tharu villages to learn about the Tharu way of life, how the houses are built, what crops they grow, their culture and their beliefs. Day 8: In Chitwan

This morning the group will travel down to the River Rapti by ox-cart, the ox cart ride provides work for the local farmers and is a fun way to travel cross country. The group will then climb into dug-out canoes for a peaceful trip downstream, a guide will accompany each canoe to point out the wildlife and help to identify the various species. On the canoe trip you are likely to see an array of birds, monkeys and basking crocs!

After lunch at the lodge the group will have the chance to visit the elephant breeding centre. This is where the working elephants are housed and trained, the students will have the chance to feed the baby elephants at the centre and learn all about elephants and how they are trained to work. All the students will be looking forward to this morning's activity - an elephant safari in the jungle! The elephants are kitted out with a robust Howdah which comfortably carries four passengers. A mahout, or handler, will ride on the elephant's neck and guide the elephant through the forest trails in search of wildlife. The animals in the park have become used to seeing elephants complete with passengers and so are generally at easy allowing great viewing opportunities. The elephant safari lasts about one hour and there is a good chance of seeing rhino, monkeys, deer and crocodiles as well as plenty of birds.

In the afternoon your tour leader and the local guides will take the students back to the local school. Here we plan to have a half day of activities including a welcome from the Nepalese children, some games and possibly a football match. Overnight in Chitwan (Lodge) meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner

Day 10: In Chitwan

After breakfast the students will walk to school to meet their friends from yesterday. Today they will have the chance to try their hand at teaching - the Nepalese school children are taught English as part of their curriculum and they will be very keen to practice what they have learnt with students from England. The day will be a mix of games and teaching. Depending on group size this may be arranged in smaller groups that rotate between the classes.

In the evening before dinner some of the local villagers will come to the lodge to perform a traditional Tharu stick dance for the students. This energetic dance evolved from the need for the Tharu people to clash sticks together to scare away wild animals from their village (before the days of electric fences!) The students will be invited to join in. Overnight in Chitwan (Lodge) Meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner

Day 11: Chitwan - Kathmandu
