This luxury tour is ideal for families who love wildlife and exploration. We have picked two fantastic locations in Tanzania, the incredible Selous National Reserve and a beautiful private island in the Bagamoyo Lagoon. Whilst on safari the family can stay in either the Rufuji River Camp in the incredible Selous National Reserve or the delightful Mikumi Lodge in Mikumi National Park. (Boat safaris not available in Mikumi)
Our beach hotel is located on a stunning island where the kids can explore the lagoon, mangrove forests and woodland in a safe environment whilst the parents can make the most of the 9km of private white sand beach!
Fly overnight to Dar es Salaam.
On arrival in Dar you will be met at the airport by one of our local representatives. From here you will take a short domestic flight to the safari camp in the heart of the beautiful Selous National Park. Your luxury safari camp is located on the banks of the Rufiji River in the heart of the reserve, the owners have carefully planned the site so that it is both environmentally friendly, sensitive to its surroundings and perfect for wildlife viewing. Each tent is equipped with private bathroom and a veranda facing the river. There is a constant flow of animals coming down to drink at the river, offering guests almost constant wildlife viewing opportunities. Whilst staying at the camp all meals are included, as are the game drives. After an early breakfast this morning you will head out on the first safari of the day. The Selous is the largest nature reserve in Africa and the second largest in the world. It is known to hold an incredible 400 species of animal including high numbers of lion, elephant, buffalo, giraffe, hippopotamus, wild dogs and crocodiles. Game drives are in open top safari jeeps and led by expert local guides. After lunch at camp there will be a second game drive. Today there will be another full day to enjoy the Selous. After an early morning game drive and a leisurely lunch at camp, we have included a boat safari on the tranquil Rufuji River. Boat safaris are led by expert guides and allow you to see a vast array of birdlife along the banks as well as the animals that come to the waters edge to drink. Your final day in the Selous will be free for you to choose either a boat or jeep safari with a free morning or afternoon at the camp. Additional safaris can be bought at the camp or for the more aventurous - a foot safari with one of the local ranger-guides. Overnight in the Selous. Meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner
After breakfast the family will take the flight back to Dar and transfer the short distance by road to Bagamoyo. Our eco-lodge is situated on the white sand beaches that lie within the Zanzibar Channel. To get to the lodge there will be short boat ride through the shallow blue lagoon. On arrival the friendly staff will be there to greet you and offer you a welcome drink, the rest of the day is free to enjoy the beautiful surroundings. Today the family have the whole day to enjoy the idyllic ‘Robinson Crusoe’ island. All meals are included at the lodge as well as use of the kayaks, wind surfers and sailing dinghy. There is 9 km of deserted beach to explore as well as mangrove forests and patches of indigenous woodland. The warm waters of the lagoon are safe for swimming and will be very enticing after your days in the bush. Overnight at Lazy Lagoon (Beach lodge) Meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner
Your final day will be spent at Lazy Lagoon soaking up the last rays of sunshine before your journey home. You may wish to snorkel, or kayak around the island, explore the mangrove forests or take a relaxing sunset dhow trip to the nearby islands or coral reef. There is also the option of visiting the historic town of Bagamoyo, once an exit port for thousands of Tanzanian slaves. Overnight at Lazy Lagoon (Beach lodge) Meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner
Today the staff at the lodge will take you back to Bagamoyo from where you will travel by road to Dar Es Salaam International Airport. Your driver will help you to the departure gates in plenty of time for your homebound flight. Meals: breakfast
Today your flight will arrive back in the UK. (depending on which airline your family choose it may be necessary to have an extra night in Dar Es Salaam to catch an early morning departure.)
