South Africa
South Africa is a great place for students to learn about wildlife conservation and its threats, it is famous for wildlife safaris, the 'Big Five' and is officially 'Megadiverse!'
South Africa contains about 10% of the world's plant species and is home to numerous large mammals including; lion, leopard, white rhino, giraffe, hippopotamus and wildebeest. Unfortunately South Africa has lost a large area of natural habitat in the last four decades, mostly due to overpopulation and deforestation. In addition to this South African biodiversity has suffered severe invasion by alien species as well as fire and poaching.
Our programme for schools brings to life the wilderness of the African Bush, the students will have chance to observe the unique animals, try their hand at monitoring the biodiversity as well as learning about the threats to conservation and how to manage them.
