Sri Lanka

The Sri Lankans have really done a good job in protecting their best assets, around 2000 square km of land of outstanding natural beauty has been preserved by way of four National Parks which contain tropical rainforest, open woodland and teak forest. Many of the important historical sites have also been protected as World Heritage Sites such as the holy site of Kandy and the ancient city of Sigiriya- a top contender for position as eighth wonder of the world. Despite this Sri Lanka still remains one of the poorest countries in the world, since the tsunami development has been slow and charities and conservation efforts have suffered.

Together with the Sri Lanka Wildlife Conservation Society and our fantastic ground crew we have come up with two itineraries designed to really make a difference to people's lives. Volunteering in Sri Lanka will not only be an unforgettable experience for the students who take part, but the tour will also, actively contribute to the improvement and sustainable development of rural Sri Lanka.
