Depart London and fly overnight to Delhi
On arrival in Delhi you will be met at the airport and taken to the hotel in the heart of the city. The rest of the day is free to rest after your flight or take a walk around the splendid Connaught Place. Overnight in Delhi (Hotel) Meals: no meals included on day 2
Today you have the full day to explore this incredible capital. Delhi is two cities in one New Delhi came into existence during the time of the British Raj and is characterised by grand buildings and wide tree lined streets. Old Delhi on the other hand is a maze of bazaars and narrow streets that would confuse even the most street wise traveller. This morning there will be a tour of New Delhi to include the incredible 73m minaret of Qutab Minar, the tomb of Mughal Emperor Humayun, the Parliament Buildings and the India Gate. After a tasty masalla meal you will take a cycle rickshaw tour through the streets of Old Delhi to include views of the Red Fort and the bustling and colourful Chandri Chowk Bazaar. Overnight in Delhi (Hotel) Meals: breakfast, lunch
An early start is required to catch the express train to Pushkar. Leaving from the hubbub of New Delhi station the train pulls out of the city and is soon chugging through rural Rajistan. From the little station at Ajmer there is a short drive to Pushkar. Famous for its camel fairs Pushkar is a spiritual oasis positioned on the shore of the beautiful Lake Pushkar and is typically Rajistani in character. To get the full authentic desert experience we have arranged for you to stay in a luxury tented camp where the crew will prepare a traditional Rajistani meal for you. Overnight in Pushkar (Camp) Meals: breakfast, dinner
This morning there is one of the many highlights of this tour – a camel trek through the mysterious silent sand dunes of the Rajistan Desert. The trek will bring you back to the camp and after lunch in Pushkar you will proceed to the little town of Pachewar. In Pachewar you will be staying in Pachewar Garh, one of India’s wonderful heritage hotels, once a fort Pachewar Garh is an amazing building with massive ramparts and imposing gates, intricate balconies and spacious apartments and is adorned with antique frescos of exquisite beauty. In the afternoon traditional bullock carts will take you on a tour through the village where you will see the toy makers, market and pottery kilns. Overnight in Pachewar. (Heritage Hotel) Meals: breakfast
Today you will continue your journey east to the Pink City of Jaipur, the capital of Rajistan. Jaipur is an amazing city and not just for its pink walls, it also has opulent palaces and lively bazaars, heavily laden camels weave through the traffic and the brightly coloured saris and colourful turbans add to the frenzy of colour. Having checked into the lovely Havelli hotel you’ll set off on foot through the colourful bazaars to the intricate façade of the Palace of the Winds and then onto the Palace complex, here you will first see the huge stone observatory built by Rajput king Jai Singh 2nd and then visit the City Palace which is home to the current Maharaja of Jaipur. Overnight in Jaipur (Hotel) Meals: breakfast
This morning you will take auto rickshaws (an experience in itself – think whacky racers!) through the city to the foot of the Amber Palace. Amber was the original home of the Rajput warriors before the building of Jaipur. From the bottom of the hill you can ride elephants up to the impressive fortress and from here explore on foot the halls and passageways of this incredible building concluding with the magical chamber of mirrors. The afternoon is free in Jaipur to relax at the hotel or do spot of shopping in the bazaars. Overnight in Jaipur (Hotel) Meals: breakfast
Early in the morning you will start the road trip out to Ranthambore. Ranthambore is a vast 1300 sq km of wild jungle, lakes, crags and crumbling temples. Wildlife in the park includes: langur, crocodile, jackal, sloth bear, hyenas and around 42 tigers. As many as 272 bird species have been recorded in the park. Once you have settled into your lodge you will head out on an afternoon game drive. Overnight in Ranthambore (Lodge) Meals: breakfast, dinner
The best time to see game is early morning, we have included a second game drive in the park after breakfast. The rest of the day is free to relax at the lodge and take in the tranquil surroundings. For the adventurous there is the option of visiting the Ranthambore Fort or heading out on another game drive. Overnight in Ranthambore (Lodge) Meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner
Today you will leave the National Park and drive to the train station to board the express train to Bharatpur. Here you will visit the famous Keoladeo Bird Sanctuary; this former duck hunting reserve of the Maharajas is now a UNESCO listed site which contains more than 360 species of bird as well as Golden Jackal, Striped Hyena, Jungle Cat, Sambar, Blackbuck and wild Boar. We have included a cycle tour through the reserve before meeting the coach to continue to Fatephur Sikri.
Said to be the most beautiful monument ever built for love, the Taj Mahal took 22 years to build and was the work of 22,000 craftsmen. An early start allows you to see this incredible building at its best – at sunrise. After breakfast there will be a guided tour of the immense Agra Fort, built by Akbar the Great, which dominates the city. In the afternoon you will return to Delhi by road.
